Women in the Workplace: Key to Flexibility & Collaboration

This Women’s Month, we’re celebrating all the skills that women in the workplace have to offer. While women still face challenges in the modern workplace, they also bring a truly unique set of skills and experiences to the table.

Here are a few key benefits of employing more women in the workplace:

Diversity

Teams benefit from diversity, when there is a mix of team members from different backgrounds offering multiple perspectives on the same subject. Women introduce an element of diversity into the workplace.

Flexibility

Higher employment of women can also help to bring about positive changes when it comes to flexibility. Attitudes towards work-life balance are shifting, and many employers are placing more focus on helping workers to juggle all their responsibilities. With the majority of women taking on the role of primary caregivers in their families outside of work hours, this balancing act is more important than ever before. Initiatives like flexible hours, remote working and childcare facilities at work can benefit male and female workers.

Collaboration

Workplace experts report that women generally tend to have strong communication skills, as they often respond more effectively to visual, verbal and emotional factors than their male counterparts. With a combination of communication and networking skills, women at work are able to encourage collaborative teamwork and effective knowledge-sharing.

Mediation

Women understand the power of effective listening and compromise, which are both important qualities when it comes to resolving conflicts in the workplace. Good communication skills and empathy make women efficient mediators who are able to listen to and consider all sides of a problem in order to help mediate and resolve it.

Motivation

Women have the power to encourage and inspire their coworkers. This can help to foster an environment where all team members are striving to do their best and achieve more.

Planning and Organisation

Many female employees are masters at multitasking. They have strong organisational skills, which help with distributing workload and keeping their team on track. Women can often take on multiple roles at once, which can help to bridge skills gaps and keep things afloat when a company is short-staffed.

Organisation and planning go hand in hand. Women are forward-thinkers, and this makes them valuable assets when it comes to planning and strategising for the future.

In short, including more women in the workplace is key for companies looking at more flexible, collaborative and strategic ways of working.

Consumer Tip

If you’re trying to stretch your budget that little bit further, these smart shopping tips will help to keep you from overspending at the grocery store:

  • Supermarkets often put the priciest products on the eye-level shelves. Take time to go through the different brands on the higher and lower shelves, to get the best price.
  • Don’t go shopping while you’re hungry; you’re more likely to spend more on food, and to buy extra snacks.
  • Clean out your fridge and pantry cupboard once a month, and use up what you have before buying more.
  • Be sure to take your shopping list with you, so you know exactly what you need and don’t end up making unnecessary purchases.

Caring Families

They say “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, and it’s true. You can’t take good care of others if you’re not looking after yourself as well. Take charge of your physical and emotional wellbeing with these healthy habits:

  • Eat balanced meals, get about 8 hours of sleep a night, and exercise a few times a week.
  • Go for annual physical check-ups with your doctor.
  • Connect with friends and family who make you feel good and add value to your life.
  • Take time to unwind and relax, to help keep your stress levels in check.
