While we celebrate the achievement of women and respect the role they play in the home, the community, and the workplace, we need to be mindful of the need to nurture this potential.

Tips for Balancing Work and Home Responsibilities

Switching to remote work is a big adjustment; here are some ways you can make the process easier and less stressful.

  • Create a clearly defined workspace. Set up a home office space that’s dedicated to work activities – preferably a room with a door you can shut. This helps to set clear boundaries and keep work and home life separate.
  • If you work from home, explain to your kids that while you love having extra time at home with them, you still need to focus on work for a certain period of time each day.
  • Share the responsibilities at home. Draw up a schedule that allows you and your spouse or partner to share the daily household chores more equally. If you have older kids, you can also create a daily chore roster for them and encourage them to help out.
  • Plan and prepare your meals in advance. Spending a couple of hours on meal prep one night a week can save you a lot of time during the rest of the week.
  • Make use of online grocery delivery services. This will save you time and limit your exposure to crowds.
  • Find fun child-friendly activities. Find some fun, engaging activities your kids can enjoy with minimal supervision, like puzzles and board games.
  • Take smaller, more frequent breaks. Breaking your day up into smaller tasks and taking short, frequent breaks allows you to spend time with your kids at regular intervals throughout the day.
  • Adjust your hours if needed. You might find you’re able to be more productive during naptime or after your kids have gone to bed.
  • Take time for yourself. Make sure you give yourself time to relax and de-stress; you can’t pour from an empty cup.
