As we start to adjust to the \u201cnew normal\u201d, remember that the youngsters in our lives may still be struggling to understand all the changes that have happened over the past months.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a parent, guardian or caregiver, here are a few ways to help your children cope as the pandemic continues.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Let them know it\u2019s okay to be worried and to ask questions.<\/li>\n<li>If you don\u2019t know the answer to a question, be honest. Tell your child you don\u2019t know, but you\u2019d be happy to look up the answer with them online.<\/li>\n<li>Educate yourself and know the facts about COVID, so you know what to say if your child is worried by a frightening rumour or false information.<\/li>\n<li>Talk to your child\u2019s teacher or other school staff, if you\u2019re worried about the information they\u2019re getting at school.<\/li>\n<li>Limit how much time you spend watching or listening to the news when your child is around.<\/li>\n<li>Try to keep your family\u2019s day-to-day routine as regular as possible. Make sure you spend time as a family and take regular breaks from work, school, screen time and social media.<\/li>\n<li>Focus on the things you\u2019re doing to stay safe and healthy, like washing your hands, wearing a mask and staying socially distanced. Talk to them about how all these things help us to protect ourselves and others.<\/li>\n<li>Be a good role model and follow the COVID-friendly guidelines that are in place; your children will learn from your example.<\/li>\n<li>Look for ways you can help others during this difficult time, like volunteering or donating old clothes and possessions.
