5 Steps to Emotional Coaching

In order to raise children with strong emotional intelligence, it’s important to teach them to be aware of their feelings, and give them the tools to express those emotions properly. Here are five steps to emotional coaching, to help your child through the process of unpacking big or overwhelming emotions:

  • Step 1: Be aware of the emotions your child is feeling.
  • Step 2: Look at these emotions as an opportunity to connect, rather than a challenge.
  • Step 3: Listen to your child when they talk about their emotions, and validate their feelings.
  • Step 4: Give the emotions a name, to help your child develop their own awareness.
  • Step 5: Help your child to express their emotions with healthy behaviours.

Dealing with Festive Season Debt

If you’re struggling with debt after the festive season, here are some tips to help you recover financially:

  • Assess your financial position, including your assets, liabilities and monthly cash flow. Recognise where you need to make some changes.
  • Temporarily cut back on unnecessary luxuries like satellite TV or streaming services, as well as dining out and entertainment.
  • Consolidate your debt with a low-interest debt consolidation loan, and work to pay it off promptly (within 6-months or less).
  • Talk to a chartered accountant or debt counsellor for professional help. LifeAssist provides you with access to a financial coach, so give us a call!
  • Budget carefully and put some savings aside so you are well-prepared for the next festive season.
