Eat healthier to work smarter
“You are what you eat” – but what does this really mean? And does it extend to your mind? In fact, a healthy diet will not only help you control your weight and lower your cholesterol, it can also improve your concentration, alertness, problem-solving skills and productivity.
Everything you eat affects the way your body functions and how it performs. When you eat healthily, your body processes the nutrients from food and maximises them for optimal energy. Poor nutrition, on the other hand, leads to a lack of energy with an impact on overall well being and productivity.
Poor dietary habits can lead to the following symptoms in the workplace:
- Fatigue
- Decreased mental alertness
- Irritability
- Lower energy levels
- Inconsistent job performance
- Higher levels of stress and depression
- Decreased productivity.
You can use food to your advantage. Practise good nutrition based on healthy foods and eating habits and it will help you stay healthy and productive, in the workplace as well as at home.
