No magic potion can stop the skin from aging – but much can be done to help you look a lot younger.

Here are a couple of skin treatments to consider:

Chemical skin peels

There are three types of skin peel (light, medium and deep) that treat conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles due to sun damage, acne, acne scarring, skin blemishes, pigmentation, age spots and rough skin. Skin peels can be performed on the face, hands and neck. If you don’t want to spend a small fortune at a salon, you could use a skin peel at home, such as the medium depth tri-chloroacetic acid (TCA) skin peel, to get rid of superficial lines.

Microdermabrasion and dermabrasion

Microdermabrasion exfoliates the skin’s dead cells with a hand piece while dermabrasion removes layers of the skin with an instrument and is used for acne scars, liver spots, aging skin and wrinkles, sun damage, skin lesions, pigmentation and tattoos.

Laser

“Laser” means Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Damaged skin is removed, layer by layer, through flashes of light directed over the skin. Various lasers are used to treat conditions such as sun damage, freckles, age spots, stretch marks, scars, birthmarks, leg veins, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne, irregular pigmentation, redness of the skin, as well as for tattoo and hair removal and skin tightening.

Computer Aide Cosmetology Instrument (CACI)

CACI is known as the “non-surgical face-lift”. It tightens and tones muscles and stimulates cell rejuvenation. It treats fine lines and wrinkles, cellulite, sagging skin, acne, scars, stimulates circulation and lifts facial contours. It is also used to tone and rejuvenate the bust, abdomen, bottom, neck and hands and as a lymphatic treatment.

From 8 to 12 treatments are recommended followed by one series of treatments every four weeks for maintenance. This treatment has no side-effects.

Botox

Botox (botulism toxin) is one of the most popular facial treatments for wrinkles. Small amounts of botulism are injected into the muscles underlying the area where your wrinkles are formed. Once it has been injected, the botox goes to work and paralyzes the muscles underneath. The amount of botox injected is very small, and will simply keep the wrinkles from appearing as you go about your day.

Botox injections should only be performed by skilled medical professionals who will explain the risks.

Take care

Fully research the skin care treatment of your choice and find an experienced practitioner to get the best results. Make sure your doctor explains the procedure in detail, including any possible adverse side-effects.

Staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen with high SPF (at least 30) every day is a must for every skin procedure.
