It is most important to deal with workplace stress before it deals you the stressed out, burn out, physical and mental ill-health card. Beat workplace stress by changing your mindset, habits and mode of communication. It can be done!
Workplace stress
If you are suffering from work-related stress and it’s beginning to affect your wellbeing, now is the time to make a change. Why risk your mental and physical health when you can effectively do something about it? After all, stress is often only a reaction, a response to events and people that make you feel stressed out.
Learn to develop a relatively stress-free workplace by changing your mindset, habits and mode of communication.
Importance of mindset
Research shows that the difference between those who shine and are successful and those who don’t lie in the way in which they think, their mindset! Many of those who have achieved greatness have worked extremely hard to get there despite the fact that some of them were told that they did not have the innate ability and would never amount to much. However, they believed that they were in control of their own destiny, could improve and achieve and worked hard to do so. They also decided to face failure head-on, learn from their mistakes and not be discouraged by setbacks.
What has all this got to do with eliminating stress in the workplace? First of all, you can, where possible, face up to and reduce your exposure to the typical workplace stressors that negatively influence your performance at work. Do what is in your power to do and accept the things you can’t change; it’s not worth worrying about them. Secondly, you can change your mindset and concentrate on the road ahead of you and decide not to be diverted from your path by anything or anyone. How? By changing your habits and the way you talk and communicate.
Thoughts and habits can be changed
The way to go is to change your thought process and develop new habits that teach you how to manage stress or how to distance and distract yourself from stressors and stressful situations. The good news is that all of this is possible because your brain can be trained and changed! You can teach it new neural pathways by doing, saying and thinking particular things. These things that you do or say become hard-wired into your brain as habits. Old, negative habits, for example in how you respond to stressful situations, can be changed and new, positive, stress-relieving ones acquired. It just takes time and dedication.
Talk the talk
Believe that you can attain anything you set your mind to and stop that little critical (fixed mindset) voice in your head telling you otherwise. Cut out all negative self-talk and only think and speak positive words and affirmations. It really works and will help you relax and feel empowered.
Another sure way to relieve stress is to use humour. Using humour when communicating with yourself and others may cause both laughter and tears. Laughter not only distracts your and others’ minds from stressful situations but also produces helpful chemicals in the brain. Laughing until you cry is just as beneficial and release tension and stress for many people.
According to research good workplace health is extremely important for productivity and success. Increased anger and loss of humour among people in the workplace are just two of the stressful, knock-on effects that businesses now have to deal with. Don’t let it keep you back!
