Protein

  • Lean chicken or beef steak
  • Fish fillet of choice (salmon, hake, etc.)
  • Fat free cottage cheese (chive flavour or else include fresh chives)

Veggies

  • Red, yellow and green pepper
  • Baby mushrooms
  • Baby marrows
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • 1 whole butternut
  • Fresh coriander
  • Fresh mint

Starch

  • Sweet potato
  • Cous cous

Condiments

  • Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper

Handy tips

  • Instead of using potatoes in the potato salad, use sweet potato. Remember to use fat-free mayonnaise.
  • Lose the salt. Use fresh herbs and spices to enhance flavour instead of salt or salt-based meat flavourings.
  • Marinate – add bold flavours without adding too many kilojoules or fat grams. Use liquids such as fruit juices, lemon juice, wine or low sodium meat or vegetable stock to marinate and add new flavour infusions. Try these ingredients to make delicious easy cost effective marinades for your meat, poultry or fish. Almost any combination to your preference of the following ingredients: Soya sauce, sweet chili sauce, red wine, mustard, finely chopped pineapple, honey, lemon juice and any fresh herbs (like coriander).
